For our second week of rehearsal we began with exploring a little more in to Flo and Joan, we began watching video’s of their past performances. This is where we discovered that we wanted the parody element in our performances and our way of achieving this would be to paradise the songs we create using the backing tracks of popular songs.(Research & Methodology parody) Flo and Joan grab the audiences attention straight away In live performances and this is something we wanted to do for this we would need a big entrance song. From this we then began to start brainstorming songs and playing around with different lyrics. We started with a structure to help remake the lyrics, this was the three W’s method where we answered the following before creating the song:
- What did we want the song to say?
- What did the song need to do?
- What was the overall achievement/ why is it there?
After browsing through the internet trying to find a song Shannon suggested ‘The Circle of life‘ from the common musical Lion King . Throughout the rehearsal we devised our own version of the song with the theme of food, to which we then changed the title to ‘Circle Of Food’. This song was created to grab the audiences attention and introduce the audience to the show and tell them what it was going to include and also tell them the type of show it was. Once the lyrics were completed we then decided to sing it through and record it so that we could listen and reflect back on the song to see if it achieved our mini goals. The lyrics are funny when creating it we didn’t realise until we started singing it and our natural personalities came through.

The Tim Talk / reflection
This week we also asked Tim to come in to our session and give advice on our overall ideas. Coming into the session he seemed very excited to work with us we started the discussion with first explaining what we wanted are piece to be about and what we wanted to achieve. Tim’s reactions were great he seemed pleased with how far we had gotten on brainstorming ideas we then performed Circle of life of course it was at it’s most basic content but the feedback we received was good. He loves the theme of food he thinks that it is a good idea because food has such a wide spectrum which gives us more to work with. Looking back on this weeks rehearsal I feel that we have already come on so much we have a plan of action which is helping us stay on track, I think that we have chosen the right type of theatre to develop for our final, and I think that is what makes us original In that nobody else has chosen to use this type of structure for their final performances. Next week I think we need to start getting ‘Circle of food’ up on its feet.

Tasks to complete next week…
Putting the first part on its feet
