week six

This week we decided to take a step back from rehearsals and catch up with admin work for the finale performance. We had taken it upon ourselves to do rehearsals for songs etc… in our own time. In terms of admin work we had a lot to do, We created a list of things that had to be done to make it easier for us to make sure that we would get everything done. The first thing that we decided to do was to email all the necessary sources that we needed to help start putting our performance together. We emailed Ben to help us locate some of the scenery that we needed which was a sofa and a fridge. We then booked out the photo booth so that we could take photo’s for marketing our performance. We also emailed Tim to have a brief catch up on everything that we had been doing also to prepare us for the work in progress next week. We decided to finish creating our performance timetable which I mentioned before was to keep us on track and to make sure that every aspect of our finale would be in place ready for our performance dates.

Who are we?

We wanted to get a head start on our marketing to advertise our performance, partly due to the excitement but we also wanted to get as many people as possible to come and watch but before we would set up anything on social media we had to create a company name and name for the performance. We had so many ideas for our company name but neither of us could agree on any of them. Shannon and I are very different yet similar and are attracted to the same things, we knew we wanted our name to resemble who we are and the type of performance we would create. It honestly took ages and then Zoe who was in the room with us at the time said and I quote “huh, Opposite Attractions”, we instantly loved it. It suited us in every way shape and form So as of this week we are officially ‘Opposite Attractions theatre company’ . Another thing that we could not agree on was the name of our performance, it is about food, yet we didn’t want food to be in the title, we wanted something catchy and short. I suggested ‘Foodshies’ and it stuck for a little while but then shan and I were just discussing stuff about the performance and she said ‘Can I take your order please?’ and we both burst into excitement that was it that was the name of our performance!

Marketing

In terms of marketing we started with created pages and accounts on social media, Here is where we would keep people up to date with upcoming progress of the performance. We started by creating an Instagram account. I controlled this account, we would post things on the story’s about the performance or even ask people what there favorite foods where, it was a good way of expanding knowledge on what the favorite takeaway was. We created a logo to place as the display picture which just had our company name on and we then would use the bio section to explain what our performance was etc…

We then decided to create a Facebook page as it is the biggest form of social media which meant that it would help our company awareness grow, friends and family were also helpful in sharing the page. Again the Facebook page was created to keep our audience up to date with the progression of the performance and we would post pictures of us getting the set and of our photo shoot. Our Facebook page went from like 0 to 100 very fast in followers and so many people kept sharing our page, we were receiving messages about performance date quires which felt amazing we described it on the page as ‘a piece for the people’.

The photo shoot

We arranged to use the photography studio this week to take some photo’s to use for marketing and posters. We had the best time we wanted the pictures to represent what the performance was about and to also represent our personalities, we are both at our comfiest in our pajamas so, we decided to wear them as a costume in the performance and on the pictures. We also wanted the pictures to incorporate food and takeaway menu’s for added comedy, with this idea of course came hundreds of hilarious photo’s for us to use throughout the journey, I have selected a few of my favorite ones to give you examples of the kind of photo’s we use throughout.

The poster

For our poster we wanted to make sure that it told enough about our performance but not to much that people would know what its about. We wanted it to match our comedic personalities and the overall feeling of the performance. I think this is the best Poster design we created, I think we would of liked to do a variety but this was going to be a head/leading poster.
