Lighting Tutorial
As part of our performance process it is important that we learn and understand every aspect of our show which includes technical aspects. Tutorials were arrange by the technicians for every area so that people could attend and develop knowledge to help their performance process run smoothly, Shannon and I went together for most of the technical tutorials so we could do it together.
So for the lighting tutorial there was a lot of information thrown at me and at first it was hard to follow so I had to take notes and write down everything that Pete said. Pete was amazing at explaining the process and answering any questions that we had. Firstly we were shown the basics how to turn the system on and off safely in which we had to enter a code this was 1256 and also turning on the power board which was a grey button. We also went through how to save and create files for our performance so that if we did use any effects we could record and keep them instead of doing it all again. Pete also then went through what lights we had and they all do different things and create different effects.
There were a list of channel numbers that we had to remember for thew lights to work etc… these were:
- 123 warm
- 456 cold
- 50-54 Disco lights
- 60-68- LED lights
- 80-83 Barton side lights
- channel 100 turns the house lights on and make sure to always use ‘+’ for separate channels and to stop lights press’out’.
To turn these lights on you would have to To turn these channels on to a certain intensity you would have to type in the channel number click “at” and then type in a number to alter the intensity so 30(%) for example. This was just to turn on one particular lantern and 99% of the time it would be useful to have a way to group these to turn on all of the house lights or the whole cold wash, they also tell us when first using the lights to keep it on a low intensity for the lights to warm up as they might blow if put on at 100%. To cue lighting press ‘record’ then cue number and then select ‘enter’. The to change the time of the cue type cue’1′ press time and then add in whatever seconds is needed as you select enter it changes. Pete could not stress this enough… make sure you save everything!
Even though the lighting tutorial was basic I feel that it was needed because it really helped our understanding of how the desks work, this also means that if a technician is not around we can still carry on progressing the performance.
Final Cut pro tutorial
So for finale cut pro we had a lot to go over so I just took notes, I have used this software before so I did know what I was doing to an extent. Ben was amazing at explaining and giving us chance to take down notes. I like how he taught us quicker ways of doing things as he knows that when making a performance time is precious, it would cut the time in half for us that way we can move along quicker I have only got this tutorial in note form just as a reminder for when I need it for the finale performance. It will be easier for me to follow.
File . New. Library. And give it a name and save under desk top.
File . New project.
To get video’s file and import media
Click and drag over the video’s and deprecated media and import selected
Background task window- click in the circle
Click on the two film strip to sort of zoom in it can make it easier.
(24frames in a second)
Click I for the clip to start find where u wanna end it and click o for out.
Drag and drop in time line
Command and + to doom in on the time line
To zoom out it’s command –
Click on sideways timer to get to transitions for clips
Click and drag and drop the chosen one in between the clips you want
We then learnt about effects and filters that can be applied to the video, I’m not sure we will use this however it was good to learn. So If I want an effect drag it and drop it on the chosen clip. In the top right corner u can change the tones of colour. Then we have to save effects perfect, and save in basics and drop it on to the clips if you want to that is optional but it seems to be the easiest way. To add to this you can also get audio effects if you want to the quickest and simplest way of doing that is to go to file and import the media to get music on the actual video and then to finish, Drag the file and drop it underneath the video footage we can edit it exactly the same Go to file. Share. Master file give it a name. Press next save where u want it to go.
