This week our focus in rehearsals was to prepare for our progress week. We had to show 10 minutes of our performance to the lectures so they could see the work we had created so far, this also meant that we would have other feedback from other lectures and our fellow performers. I think the work in progress will be useful for us to other feedback from other people as it will kind of give us an idea if we are on the right track. I think our biggest worry at the minute is our voices are not at there best as we have been doing a lot of singing and vocal warm ups to help us reach the notes and harmonies but I’m sure we will pull though in time. I’m feeling very nervous, not to perform as much but to see/ hear people’s reactions to what we have created because if it doesn’t go down as well as we hope then it means going back to the drawing board.
Prior the progress performance, we did a few rehearsals to go over songs that we wanted to use and I am pleased to say that we nailed ‘Therapy’ it was funny and sounded amazing, our levels of tension choreography works really well with the song and with our stage setting. The other song we would be performing was our opening number ‘Circle of food”. These are our best put together songs that have movement and we know the harmonies are on point.
In the rehearsals Shannon struggled because she had a bad throat so, there was a sense of panic because our voices are the main attraction of our performance. After this rehearsal we both went on complete voice rest. I also think that by this point we had over sang the songs to much, it began to get a bit tedious, we wanted to do well so I think that we over did it.
Feed back from work in progress
The overall feedback from everyone was positive, they seemed to enjoy our songs and the narrative of the performance was positive, they enjoyed our characterisation and facial expressions during singing and they could tell while we were performing that we were having fun and that it was something we enjoy. When we explained the story line the feedback sounded positive and that it was a very high energy performance, they did question where we thought it was going and was there some kind of moral to why we are singing about food. I feel that the only negative feedback we got back was about or choreography they said that for Therapy we needed to add more moves to what we were singing about, however they understood that our movement was obstructed due to our hand help mics, they asked to to think about having radio mics to help us move around better. After receiving the feedback we were happy with all of the positive we had however became a bit confused with the choreography feedback so we decided to discuss it with Tim. We were confused because in one hand our facial expressions and actions were enough but it also needed more movement… We came to the conclusion that we did add more movement into it however we needed to change mics as even our tiniest of movement wasn’t coming through to the audience using hand held mics.
reflection
Overall we were happy with our feedback and with our performance, I think that we will be able to take what we heard and apply it to our rehearsals very easy and it will enable us to improve our performance and get a better grade. However I only wish that we had this feedback more often as I feel that it would be helpful for everyone to show stuff that they have created as it helps us stay positive and on track with how we are doing in general. I am proud of what we are creating and I think it will be a performance that everyone can relate to.
